Whether you're a dancer hoping to develop your singing chops or an established singer wanting to take your work to the next level and expand your dancing prowess, this powerful program will provide the structure to support your success.

FULL-VOICE!*

  30 Daily Practice Sessions
  30 min - 1 hour of practice each day for a month; miss ONE day and you're out! These sessions may be held anywhere you can practice – special rates on practice rooms may be available. Fill out and submit the provided daily practice report.

  4 Private Voice Lessons
  Four one-hour private voice lessons with a professional voice teacher; photo or video “sign-off” with teacher taken at each session and posted to your challenge blog and Facebook for credit. Purchase a single lesson or package to study with Kurt, here.

  2 Coaching Sessions
  Two 30 min - 1 hour coaching sessions with a professional accompanist, which should focus on memorization, musicality, and communicative expression.

  1 Live Vocal Performance
  YOU sing one solo live! Must be prepared and planned; karaoke with your friends doesn't count, but an evening of song with your friends and invited guests does! Think School Productions, Community Theater, Church Performances, Recitals, Cabarets etc. but you must sing at least one song live! Submit a program or photo/video from the event.

  Get out and see an inspiring vocal performance! Submit a ticket stub and program.

  1 Live NY Industry Audition
  Prepare for and attend a real audition for the Broadway or Commercial circuit. Submit a copy of the breakdown.

  1 New Demo Recording
  Learn a new song, master it, record it and post to YouTube.

The Musical Theater Performance Project 

with Artistic Director Joshua Bergasse, Musical Direction by Kurt Robinson

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide performers on the cusp of a professional career the tools, technical training, information, and networking opportunities to break into the world of professional Musical Theater.

WHAT YOU GET

This groundbreaking intensive course, designed for the advanced student of Musical Theater arts, will provide you with the hands-on training and information to become a working artist.
Students will be immersed in dance, voice, and acting classes taught by some of Broadway’s most successful professionals. In addition, the course will feature seminars with industry experts to educate students on the specifics of marketing themselves.

Studying proper technique in all genres, students learn repertory from past, current, and upcoming Broadway shows, participate in discussion panels on the business (including finding an agent, auditioning successfully, headshots and résumés, nutrition, injury prevention, education), and more. As part of the course, students will attend Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, followed by question and answer sessions with cast members.

The course will culminate with the Performance Project showcase held in an off-Broadway theater, for which students will spend over 30 hours rehearsing. The audience will comprise many of the industry’s leading talent agents, casting directors, stage directors, and choreographers.

LOCATION

This Broadway Dance Center Program is held at an off site location just a  short walk from BDC at The Ailey Studios and The Ailey Citigroup Theater. The showcase will take place at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Joan Weill Center for Dance.
